EVENT | UN LGBTI Core Group event on The Cultural Right of LGBTI Persons to Participate in Sports
We invite our communities to attend the UN LGBTI Core Group event on The Cultural Right of LGBTI Persons to Participate in Sports. On the occasion of the 79th United Nations General Assembly, ILGA World, Outright International, and Count Me In! Consortium are pleased to co-sponsor this event which will highlight the importance of diversity and inclusion in sport for LGBTI persons, in particular the inclusion of trans, gender-diverse, and intersex individuals.
Centering the upcoming report by Alexandra Xanthaki, the UN Special Rapporteur in the field of cultural rights, this event aims to raise awareness of the cultural right to sports at all levels of participation and will discuss successful practices that counter discrimination and violence against LGBTI persons, especially trans, gender-diverse, and intersex persons in sports.
The event will feature contributions from UN LGBTI Core Group member states, the UN Special Rapporteur in the field of cultural rights, the Vice-Chair of the UN Working Group on discrimination against women and girls, and UN Women, and Human Rights Watch. Also with contributions from athletes Grace McKenzie, Maximila Imali and J Solle, and LGBTI-inclusive sports activists Nana Millers and Payoshni Mitra.
