Calling our membership: we will host soon host the next ILGA World members meet-up!

The event, exclusively for ILGA World members, will focus on the United Nations Independent Expert on protection against violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity —  whose mandate is up for renewal during the upcoming Human Rights Council.

This is not a webinar, but a meeting: hear from other member organisations and share your own experience to help our global community!

ILGA World members meet-up: “#RenewIESOGI: the global campaign to renew the mandate of the UN Independent Expert on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity”

In July 2025, the UN Human Rights Council will vote to renew the mandate of the Independent Expert on protection against violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

This is the only United Nations mechanism specifically dedicated to addressing violence and discrimination against LGBT and gender-diverse persons.

Since its creation in 2016, mandate holders have extensively documented these issues; they have also sent 171 communications documenting allegations of violations and carried out 10 country visits – and assisting States to implement international human rights standards, as well as collaborating with UN mechanisms.

However, violence and discrimination still persist worldwide, and it is essential that the mandate continues its work.

Join our new meet-up, exclusively dedicated to ILGA World member organisations, to

  • learn more about the work of the UN Independent Expert on sexual orientation and gender identity
  • share your own experience, and hear from other ILGA World members, about engaging with the mandate
  • find out how to engage in the global renewal campaign – joining hundreds of organisations worldwide calling on the Human Rights Council to renew the mandate!
