Summary:
ILGA World is in firm solidarity with the Global Sumud Flotilla and the courageous humanitarians who, at great personal risk, were illegally intercepted before they could deliver urgently needed humanitarian supplies to Gaza.
The Flotilla represents the power of non-violent global solidarity. Grassroots organisers, seafarers, politicians, journalists, medical professionals, artists, and activists from more than 40 countries came together to do what States failed to do: break the ongoing, illegal siege and bring relief to a population that is enduring genocide while the entire world is watching.
ILGA World joins the Global Sumud Flotilla and the thousands of people who are taking the streets these days across the world to remind everyone that civil society will not remain silent.
But our voices alone are no longer enough: we call on States to speak up and take action, too.
The impunity and the blatant disregard of international law are not only allowing mass atrocities to continue unabated, but also risk fuelling the fire of further hatred, violence and oppression — which we deeply reject, in all their forms.
States under the UN Charter and the Geneva Conventions are obliged to ensure respect for international humanitarian law. We call on them to break their silence, ensure that all the humanitarians on the Flotilla can return home safely, and that Israel’s blockade — which has deliberately restricted food, fuel, medical supplies, shelter and other humanitarian assistance — can finally come to an end.
