We look forward to meeting you at the largest global gathering of LGBTIacronym for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex people. Although this is not the acronym available to describe people of diverse sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, and sex characteristics, it is the most commonly used in United Nations spaces and advocacy. The 31st edition of the ILGA World Conference will take place from 11 to 15 November 2024 in Cape Town, South Africa, where the host organisations Iranti and Gender DynamiX will welcome us under the theme: Kwa umoja we rise!

Our global family returns to Africa
The ILGA World Conference returns to the African continent for the first time in 25 years, hosted by organisations led by – and working for – lesbianadjective/noun to describe a woman whose enduring physical, romantic, and/or emotional attraction is to other women. Women and non-binary people may use this term to describe themselves. More, transadjective/umbrella term to describe a person whose gender identity does not match the sex they were assigned at birth. More, and intersexan umbrella term for the spectrum of variations of sex characteristics that naturally occur within the human species. Intersex people are born with variations of sex characteristics (such as genitals, reproductive organs, hormonal and chromosomal patterns) that are more diverse than stereotypical definitions of male or female bodies. Up to 1.7% of the global population are born with such traits; yet, because their bodies are seen as different, intersex children and adults are often stigmatised and subject to harmful practices – including in medical settings - and discriminated against. More persons. To the increasing targeting of our communities shaking the region, we respond with global solidarity.
Everywhere, LGBTI activists and other social justice movements are experiencing a tidal wave of pushback for their work. Once again, those in power use our communities as convenient scapegoats to cover up their failures to provide a better future for all.
In times of violent opposition, we find ways forward together. In unity we rise!

ILGA World is committed to gathering our membership and global community together. But organising a World Conference is a significant feat, and comes with high costs. The deadline to apply for a scholarship to attend the 2024 ILGA World Conference has expired. Over the past few months, we received over 1,000 applications for our scholarship programme. Unfortunately, we can only support a fraction of those who applied. We informed selected scholars during the past weeks.
No matter whether your scholarship application was unsuccessful, we still hope to see you at the 2024 ILGA World Conference! If you need support to participate in the event, we invite you to seek alternative funding to join us and register now as a paying participant.
The deadline to propose sessions for the 2024 ILGA World Conference has expired. We received over 500 proposals and selected vibrant, thoughtful, and exciting ideas that will shape our event’s programme. We have informed the successful proponents over the past weeks and will work with them to create the best conference experience for you.
