The event “Advancing LGBTIacronym for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex people. Although this is not the acronym available to describe people of diverse sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, and sex characteristics, it is the most commonly used in United Nations spaces and advocacy. More rights during and after the pandemic: UN Treaty Bodies Annual Reports 2020, 2021, 2022” is a launch event for ILGA World’s reports on how the Treaty Bodies have addressed SOGIESCabbreviation standing for sexual orientation and gender identity & expression, and sex characteristics. More issues in 2020, 2021 and 2022. We will present the main findings relevant to the rights of LGBTIQ+ communities and activists from Latin America and the Caribbean will share their experiences with the committees through the elaboration of shadow reports and individual communications. The annual Treaty Bodies reports for the years 2020, 2021, and 2022, first event will be held in Spanish with English interpretation available, and in English in July (date TBC).
The Annual Treaty Bodies Reports will allow activists and practitioners to learn about the trends and developments in relation to SOGIESC issues by Treaty Bodies and explore opportunities for advocacy at the local and international level. The event will be joined by speakers from different backgrounds and expertise in the field of human rights, such as members and leaders of civil society organisations, complainants before the UN Committees, legal practitioners and academics with experience in LGBTI topics and UN Treaty Bodies.
